When doing renovation work around your home there aren't many better feelings than pulling up an old worn carpet to find a lovely wooden floor waiting for you beneath. However in most cases these floor boards will be in need of some TLC to bring them up to a presentable and aesthetically pleasing place.

Can my floor boards be restored?

Almost always your floor boards will be in a position to be restored, what can vary however is how much work may be required to restore them and the level to which they can be restored. Some people are happy with a more rugged finishing look whereas others may seek a pristine even finish. It is important to discuss with your contractor what is a realistic finish for your flooring is based on its existing state.

What is the process?

Again, this can vary greatly depending on the state of the flooring and how you expect the floor to look once the work has been completed. Do you want any gaps between floorboards filled? Do you want damaged floor boards replaced? Do you want the flooring to be stained to have a consistent coloured finish? However the fundamental process remains the same, the floor is prepped, sanded and refinished typically with an oil.

How much will it cost?

Typically this process will cost between £30-£50 per square metre, largely depending on the volume of floor to be completed, the level of work required to achieve your desired finish. It is best to get a contractor out to review the flooring, discuss your desired flooring finish and have a unique quote provided.
